1982 The Eagle Lectern

The Eagle Lectern was a performance event shown at the London FIlm Makers Co-op and The Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool. In a continuation of the MANBOX performance cycle the artist stands on the Eagle Lectern whilst the MANBOX performance is displayed on a video monitor. Half way through the performance the artist turns down the volume on the monitor, mounts the Eagle Lectern, switches on the spotlights and bursts into song accompanied by Frank Sinatra singing “Come Fly With Me”.

Everyday I lose you… time, You are like water that slips away from me. Presence. Moment. Movement. How can I do to show how you run from me? How can I show that even if I frezze you, then you aren’t the same? How if I steal your essence, I don’t have you anyway? Strange presence… Emptiness.
